One possibility is to incorporate a pipe that routes the bees from their nest entrance off to the side of the trail, and build over that. Take care that the pipe will not funnel water into the nest. The bees will still be able to get in and out, and (with significant care) you can avoid damaging the underground nest. If I was going to do this I would likely use something like 2 inch ABS pipe with a 90 degree elbow right over the nest entrance. Note that I am not an expert on bumble bee behavior, so this could be a dumb idea.
I don’t know where Wilson WI is. If you are in northern hemisphere, can you pause the work until autumn when the nest will have finished and the new queens dispersed? Same applies if you are in southern hemisphere except it will be a longer wait for autumn.
I was just going to suggest this.
Bumblebee colonies are generally annual, with only the young queens overwintering (not in the original nest), so in a couple of months the problem may have solved itself.
(I think WI is Wisconsin)
