So I was digging up to plant something when I accidentally dug this likely Agapostemon nest with one tiny bee inside one of the holes. What should I do?? Should I bury it again and how deep??
I have done this when yanking a tall grass and was able to successfully reset the bees. I bet you can, too.
My advice: Set it in ground, nestled, so the openings are facing upward. Do not worry about them being open. The bees open their accesses during daylight. At sunset, the entrances will be covered with closed tumuli. To that end, leave debris and sand and dirt loose around it. Avoid the area where you set this as best you can for a day or two. (It is tempting to look for larvae, etc. but not necessarily kind.)
Thank you so so much! I did exactly that. I did not go looking for larva seeing that tiny bee peeking out was exciting enough for me. I did put a stick as a marker nearby so u don’t forget and go messing around or cove it with wood chips or something.
