I’ve been trying to add suitable taxon photos for the moth genus Callisthenia which has a large percentage of observations misidentified on iNat and some of those made it onto the taxon pages. As an alternative, I uploaded a screen capture of a (public domain) image from a published work (Seitz, 1913, Macrolepidoptera of the World) to Flickr and labeled that image with an appropriate species name. Yet when I try to find it on the taxon Edit Photos page, nothing shows up from Flickr…yet.
Is there some type of indexing delay or other reason why the recently uploaded Flickr image can’t be found from the iNat Edit Photos page?
I tried to upload a picture as well but had no luck. Maybe give it some time.
I remember I was having issues with this when trying to upload a picture from Flickr for taxons such as Cardus (crustacean) that is constantly confused with Carduus (plant). The image I’ve uploaded on Flickr took ages to appear on that search thing.

(I see many plants still…)
I think it might be related to https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/temporary-limitations-on-places-and-taxon-changes-april-23-may-5/64280
Is this the image you’re referring to? Including URLs in your topics can help others with troubleshooting. https://flickr.com/photos/40248467@N08/54493613467/in/photostream/
Even Flickr’s internal search doesn’t show the image to me, so it may be an issue on Flickr’s end rather than iNat: https://flickr.com/search/?text=Callisthenia+angusta
You might try Wikimedia Commons instead. That said, it’s a pretty low resolution image so I’m not sure if it makes a good iNat taxon image.
Yes, that’s the image I’m trying to place as a taxon photo. The problem is that most iNat observations of that species are misidentified and someone had uploaded the misidentified image(s) for the taxon page. Even a grainy image from the original literature will be better than a misidentified example. I just changed the license on the image on Flickr to CC0, so I’ll see if that helps.
I’ve never uploaded to Wiki Commons. Will look into that.
