Unexpectedly cute observations - what are yours?

I don’t often think of fungi as cute, but I think these two qualify. Big and little mushroom buddies.

I think this is as close as a banana slug gets to smiling for the camera.

We love Red-breasted Nuthatch sounds. We were not expecting the laughing sounds (or squeaks of sneakers on a basketball court?) that predominate this recording (may have to crank up your volume): https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/133718037

I never thought of beetles as cute but this one changed my mind. It reminds me of a somewhat fuzzy version of the Queen’s Guard.

This grasshopper was really large, honestly almost disconcertingly so, but still cute and so colorful and it used its front legs to keep hugging onto tall wildflowers.

This Oriental Beetle:

It’s just peeking over the leaf. I can’t help but think these guys are adorable. Why are the pests so dang cute?

This sawfly larva:

Not really unexpectedly cute, though, is it?

This Weevil wasp:

It just stared up into the camera. Those big eyes wanting to know if I’m a danger or just wondering what I was doing (maybe).

Hermit crabs are pretty cute to start with, but I love how this one looks like it’s yelling:

UNHAND ME AT ONCE, CHORDATE!

And between its adorable little orange legwarmers and the perfect sproing of that antenna, this is one of my favorite pictures:

I remember half a year or so ago when people posted jumping spiders and I saw the pictures the disgust factor was much stronger for me than the cute factor and I had to quickly scroll past. Nowadays I can look at them indefinitely though. So something has changed, maybe I’m becoming more of a naturalist…

I’d have been dumbfounded if someone had told me 5 years ago I would someday think a wasp larva was cute - especially if in a plant gall.

I know people far from nature react to their photos the same way, I personally would like to see that attention being spread on every spider instead of a group with big grouped eyes that triggers something in humans.

For me it is those looooong antennae – so graceful and expressive!
