Hi guys! I love moths. A lot. First time using this forum wow! I need more people to talk to people about them… Let me know if you love moths! I really like them and I need to talk about this guy specifically!

This is the Brighton Wainscot! I personally really like them… Their wings really looks like a cape! Quite a cutie too! (Click on the image for the original post!)
One of my favorites is Hyalurga vinosa. I was sure that sometime in my childhood or youth that I seen a picture of it in one of my nature books, with a caption calling it a “harlequin moth.” On that basis, I added that as a common name on iNaturalist. But last year, when I had a chance to check the two books I thought it might be, it wasn’t in either of them. Where did I see it pictured, and where did I get that name? It’s a mystery; but even so many years after seeing (or thinking I saw) that picture, I recognized the real moth the first time I came across one.
This is a day-flying moth, as you’d expect from its bright colors.
There has to be a better name than “mother” or “leper” though.
I have to many favorite moths, but the Giant Leopard Moth is close to the top.
Moth-ers, Lep-ers, and Herpers (which most people read as Herpes) . . .
So we have mother-you-know-whats, lepers, and Herpes . . .
It reminds me of the famous line from the film Snakes on a Plane (2006) https://youtu.be/amYzBQMT4VI?si=F51EjZ_wueeApl7d
This forum was very necessary. Can’t wait to engage! :D
I love moths and that thing looks soft
I’ve been raising cecropias for a few years. All began when a family friend gave me some cocoons, and only one survived and she couldn’t fly because a big storm made her wings wet. I got a couple more cocoons from the family friend, they mated, and I’ve been breeding them ever since!
Talking about mother love forum, I just saw a cool Reddit post about a bird called Cinereous Mourner Laniocera hypopyrra (an Amazonian tityrid).
Its nestlings mimic the appearance and behaviour of Flannel Moth caterpillars. Very cool!
I could share the post, but I’m a bit worried that Cassi and Tony would frown upon that somehow.
YAY! A moth forum :D
*Happy moth noises *
Also this is probably my two favorite moths ever seen:

And this guy :

Also, while everyone is talking about the adult moths, what about a few adorable caterpillars?
This little fella is a massive greater death’s head hawkmoth (jeez, what a spooky name for such a cute little fella). Look at his little happy face :)
May be overrated, but I personally love the Rosy Maple Moth! It’s a cutie, I think it personally deserves it’s love!
Quite a cutie! I’m loving its colors! :-)
AWWW its so big!!! looked at the grown photo, it grows to such a lovely color!
Hi everyone! I made a project to love all moths as a group! I’d like to bring attention to different kinds of moths, hope you can join!!
You should probably rename it to butterflies and moth fan club, for both butterflies and moths are included. Idk if there is a way to select only moths and not butterflies, because of the most confusing thing ever : taxonomy.
We (in general) need a better name for butterflies and moths collectively than just “butterflies and moths”. I know we could call them lepidopterans, but that’s kind of a mouthful…
Can we like, call the grand exalted taxonomy master of the world and ask for a name change? Something graceful and delicate, reflecting lepidopteran personality.
I personally think “scale-wings” makes them sound unappealing (even though it’s accurate!)
I personally like the term lepidopterans, and say it 10 times a week. But that is probably just me though.
@mothfangirl you make an exception in the project for Superfamily Papilionoidea it will exclude Butterflies. I have 3 Moth projects and that is how I keep them out.
Ahh alright!! Thank you so much :-)
