Yes, I don’t know if the correlation will hold, but it certainly piqued my interest. I’ll have to pay more attention–it’s a park I often walk in, so maybe I’ll see the Veery researchers at some point and one or two hurricane-prognosticating birds.
wasn’t there also a study that found songbirds fly away from the locations of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes a day or so before they come? Perhaps something similar. Very neat and mysterious. Maybe “bird language” has its weather forecasts too.
I guess it has to be something about their feeling of Earth magnetism.
