What does everyone think about aliens?

“It assumes that life arises naturally”. Well… yeah. Some believe that Life might be very common… that given the appropriate conditions it will appear much the same way simple crystals will appear given the proper conditions. The whole argument about the size of the Universe is that there must be those conditions out there… possibly quite frequently!

That is hilarious! It just shows how primed we humans are to see patterns in the noise

Life on our planet has been a series of breakthroughs. The first was the development of microbial life. No one really knows how it started although (if memory serves me correctly) scientists have shone how amino acids became available. The next breakthrough was multicellular life. Life could only get big with the presence of a rich oxygen atmosphere that provided a massive boost in energy for life processes. More recently humans have been able to leapfrog over all over life. The leapfrog was essentially a communication breakthrough. With a large brain, complex vocal tracts and other changes in our bodies we are the first species with the ability to accumulate knowledge over generations. Humans have increased in power through more increase in access to energy – domestication of plants & animals and fossil fuels and communication breakthroughs – the printing press and computers.

So a major question … does an intelligent species like humans colonize space? I mean really colonize it – by utilizing all the viable worlds in a solar system including asteroids and doing the same in other star systems? If the answer is yes then the evidence for an advanced civilization would likely be impossible to hide. Since we have not seen this kind of evidence perhaps there are no truly advanced civilizations in the universe.

If the answer is no then I believe life might be common in the universe but it always stays within its home planet.

too long and unnecessary.

TLDR: Religion and science don’t always mix, personally I trust science more, but I believe that both have their place in the world, and both help people. We live in a vast complex universe, and we’re all here to enjoy it together, so there is no use in arguing about them.
