Perhaps iNaturalist’s biggest strength that that it is a global system with experts everywhere able to contribute identifications and comments to observations everywhere. In Australia, I regularly get identifications from naturalists in Germany, Korea, etc.
Probably iNaturalist’s second biggest strength is that it is localised in so many countries so local naturalists can easily see a filtered focused subset of data for their own country in their national language and can have confidence that this is a system that contributes to national questions and programmes.
