Moss Grower’s Handbook (M. Fletcher) also reports that Cladonia/Peltigera/Collema thalli sometimes pop up uninvited in certain indoor moss cultures and can be grown similarly to the mosses that share their microhabitat.

Disclaimer: please experiment responsibly. Thalli of most nonweedy lichen taxa cannot be cultured, and will die if sprayed with buttermilk/yogurt juice. Even weedy lichens’ thalli are extremely fastidious and will die indoors if one does not perform large amounts of original research on their ecology.
