I saw three sparrows yesterday! BOTW
I’m very new to birding/birdwatching. I’ve always liked looking at owls in my neighborhood but I just began going outside with my camera and waiting for birds this week. I’ve really enjoyed getting photos of all the small common birds that visit like the Dark Eyed Junco.
It’s interesting that India doesn’t have them. Mallards, especially escaped domestic ones, seem to have made their way into a lot of countries.
That is awesome you are interested in the hobbie. Feel free to DM me on the forum for any help or questions. It’s always exciting when ya hear about a new birder.
Yes the Dark-eyed Juncos are such cool little birds. They are here in West Virginia during the winter.
Thank you!
You’re welcome!
I just checked, and I was wrong. There are himalayan mallards in india, it’s just that they are a bit uncommon. Sorry!
Which of these countries would you bird if you could only choose one?
- Peru
- Papua New Guinea
- Australia
- Madagascar
PNG: Birds of Paradise!
Does anyone know how to specify ebird checklist locations?
Australia. They have a bunch of cool birds, and even though the cassowary is mainly in New Guinea, I could get lucky.
What do you mean?
I got to see a Short-eared Owl at the Samish Flats over the weekend! A fun bird, but I hope to see many more owls later this year!

So, a new visitor to my feeder. This is the third winter I am running it. It has gotten the expected visitors: Tufted Titmice and Carolina Chickadees, and then, after spilled seeds begin to accumulate on the balcony deck, Cardinals. Today, for the first time, a White-throated Sparrow also came to the spilled seeds.
Nice!
Thank you! I’m still learning since I just began taking photos of animals with my camera.
They look great!
If I wanted to make a checklist of, say, all the birds I saw in a lake nearby my house, then how would I add the location for that checklist? Most of the time I make checklists a few days after seeing the bird, so I can’t find the correct location of where I saw the bird.
