Cached "Seen Nearby" recommendation or bug?

Platform: Android, iOS, Website

Browser: Safari (but I don’t think this is a client side issue)

URLs (aka web addresses) of any relevant observations or pages: e.g. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/179632970

Screenshots of what you are seeing:

Description of problem: Spiraea betulifolia continues to be suggested as “Seen Nearby” when users upload photos of what is now Spiraea lucida after a taxon change. There are no longer observations of S. betulifolia nearby, all have been converted to the new taxon. (See taxon changes: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes?taxon_id=1487484). S. lucida is not suggested at all. Is this a routine server-side caching issue with the “Seen Nearby” feature or a bug?

Not sure it’s a bug. If the observations were previously under S. betulifolia, then until the CV is retrained, they should still be considered as such by the CV. I don’t think the CV goes under regular recaching.

The seen nearby information is updated more often than the CV gets trained. I think it’s every few weeks, but I can’t remember where I read that.

I would guess that this is the case as well, but am not sure. @alex any thoughts?

Closing this, as the previous method for generating “Seen Nearby” is no longer being used.
