Description of problem:

I have a lot of photos on my phone that I’d like to upload but haven’t gotten around to because of the slowness of doing them one at a time through the app (especially with the added step of having to add accuracy for every obs since the Android camera doesn’t record that). I was hoping I could use the web uploader, load in 20-50 photos at a time, add IDs and a batch location precision value, and upload them together.

However I found that there wasn’t any equivalent to Shift-select or Ctrl-select that I could do with my phone to select multiple images at once to combine them into observations, once they’re loaded into the uploader. I tried long-holding and using two fingers together, and can’t think of what else would work here.

I tried testing this in Chrome as well but clicking the upload button on the website there automatically redirects me to the app instead, which isn’t what I’m looking for.

I’m not sure this is a bug. My experience with the mobile browser has always been like this, which was what finally got me to start using the app.

Do you mean you think the inability to hold and select is intentional?

The iNat website is unfortunately not designed for use on mobile browsers. Are you able to send the photos to a computer and use that uploader?

To be clear, this is not a necessity for iNaturalist. You can also use batch edit on the website to add an accuracy value to a batch of observations.

I am, it’s just another slow step in the workflow I was hoping to get around. If that’s the only option I’ll get to it eventually.

Fair (I just read this discussion). I’d like to have accuracy since it seems to make observations more useful and it’s generally not that much extra work to add it. The latter is what I usually do, and was hoping to do in mobile. Maybe here that desire is a case of the perfect being the enemy of the good…

I think it’s fine, I just wanted to be clear that it’s not a requirement. :-)

My backlog grows faster than I upload, at this rate there’s a risk some things never get uploaded! But c’est la vie. :P
