In the Identify section, if I type Europe the drop-down offers me the continent. But in Explore, if I type Europe I am only offered somewhere in Paris; and if I type Europ I am offered two places in The Netherlands and one in Germany.

For some reason, “Europe, Paris, France” will give you the entire continent. (It does for me, at least)
However, if I am not mistaken, the bar in explore is the location filter which offers results from Google, whereas the bar in identify is the place filter which offers results from iNat places.
To get the place filter in explore, you need to expand the filter box. Europe (Continent) should be an option in the dropdown there.
You can see that the two bars are called different things here. It isn’t intuitive whatsoever, but I think staff have said they don’t want to change it in the past…

Yes, it is as you say. “Europe, Paris, France” does give me the whole continent, and if I expand the filter box, the location is Europe. Thanks.
However, If you just type ‘Europe’ in the explore box and press enter, rather than selecting from the drop down, that also works
