Clicking Top Identifier Link Leads to Their Observations, not IDs

Please fill out the following sections to the best of your ability, it will help us investigate bugs if we have this information at the outset. Screenshots are especially helpful, so please provide those if you can.

Platform (Android, iOS, Website): Website

App version number, if a mobile app issue (shown under Settings or About):

Browser, if a website issue (Firefox, Chrome, etc) : Firefox

URLs (aka web addresses) of any relevant observations or pages: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/240418912

Screenshots of what you are seeing (instructions for taking a screenshot on computers and mobile devices: https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/):

Description of problem (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.): Clicking on the number of IDs under top identifiers links to their observations, not the observations of the taxa that they have ID’d

Step 1: open an observation

Step 2: go to the list of top identifiers in the bottom right corner

Step 3: click on the number under their username
When I clicked on @esant 's number, it led to their observations instead. I assume this is a bug as the number of their IDs (in this case 3,384 chromis, very impressive) did not match up with the number of observations they have (15,995, again very impressive)

Apologies if I filled this out wrong, please let me know where I went astray so I can make this as easy as possible for the devs in the future :)

I have found this frustrating as well.

I never noticed that misdirection before. I agree that it is counter-intuitive to click on the number of IDs and have the identifiers observations show up. (Clicking on the identifier’s name or icon brings up their profile page, from which you can get to all their IDs, but that doesn’t narrow it to the species of interest.)

Glad I’m not the only one who noticed it!

Made a github issue here: https://github.com/inaturalist/inaturalist/issues/4216

This has been fixed, in a way. The only way to get you to a page that corresponds to the number is to take you to https://www.inaturalist.org/identifications then filtered by identifier and taxon, so that’s what the link does now. You can read discussion on the GitHub page.
