Description of problem:
When using the application on Android, there is constant lag/freeze. It’s hard to replicate but happens after ~5-10 min of using the app. It feels like it’s using a lot of RAM (memory?). Sometimes the lag results in forever loading of observations in your area, where nothing shows up. Other times you cannot click anything on-screen.
I resolve it by exiting the app and restarting but always ends up happening again.
Are you using Explore a lot?
Yes, I do. I wonder if the amount of observations is causing the lag?
I find this also happens when doing a lot of uploading or viewing of notifications
This problem is present for soooooo long that I would be seriously surprised if the app just works normally one day. There have been updates that maybe made it slightly better, but it still persists. Observations always load multiple times in the explore section, Id’s don’t get added and I just return to the previous page (at that point its a cycle where I am no longer able to add an ID, I have to refresh the explore settings), screen blacks out and resets the explore parameters.
I get this too, usually starts after using the explore page to identify 10+ obs. (Uploading/adding obs is normally fine). Various lags, app crashing etc. I live with it and treat it as a reminder to put aside my phone… But I’d definitely identify more if the android app was less buggy.
Sadly, this issue has reduced my Android iNat usage to uploading only. There’s just no other task I can do that won’t result in a crash after a short while.
I have the same problem. I almost don’t use app because of that, but when I do for IDing, then after several IDed observations the identifications don’t save, sometimes everything freezes or crashes at the end, and I have close the app and reset it (I don’t know how to describe exactly what I do in English) and only then it works normally for a while.
I personally add observations with the internet turned off. Then I upload them when I’m home. It saves a ton of time in the field. But it doesn’t exactly prevent lag. The app might suddenly crash after taking a photo, for example. Or the app interface might not respond to requests when I have to click icons repeatedly.
Honestly, I’ll get rid of the app if it becomes possible to upload observations without a phone. I don’t use the app for any other purposes.
