I am wondering how to limit my presence when around wildlife and birds on the birdfeeder at home to capture more and be more ethical when iNatting and would like to see if there are any portable and small nature hides for home and feel free to give any other advice or methods in limiting human presence around wildlife. For context, I do some bird photography from inside out of the window but it is not the preferable method for me.
I can’t help you with portable hides, but as an alternative, does your camera have a time-lapse option? If so you can program it to time-lapse, set it out at the birdfeeder, and let it remotely take photos while you are inside.
no i don’t but that feature sounds very helpful and cool
It can be both of those things : )
Would you be able to use a popup shower tent? It isn’t totally DIY but I got mine secondhand for 15$ on craigslist. Taped a dark mesh panel up in the doorway so I can see out. Not sure what areas you tend to photograph in, but I use one that I spraypainted to blend in with the trees.
There are camo pop up blinds that are easy to carry and set up, and simple camo panels. These run from about $30-60.
I tried using hides at home, but they were hesitant about the new structure. If its at home I suppose you could leave it up for a few days til they ignore it. I think this is a very nice idea : )
Depends on who they are… almost everyone will learn to ignore it if set up well and left out.
Some are curious ( looking at you my little chickadee) and will not be shy at checking it out.
Remember to fasten it down well if leaving it out, and check for noise.
Never heard of popup shower tent before and will look into it for sure.
