Does new upload form support sounds?

It says “Drag & drop some photos or sounds” but every time I drop a sound file I get the following error message

Maybe it only accepts certain formats? The old deprecated upload form accepts .wav files just fine and people are able to ID them so surely this format is supported.

wav files upload fine for me, so there must legitimately be something wrong (or different) about that particular file, or perhaps the software you used to generate that file.

This happens with every .wav file I try to upload not only this particular one. These sound files are recorded with my phone, some of them are cropped with Audacity some are not. Both cropped and uncropped fail so seems to not depend on software. A browser issue?

I think this might be better filed as a bug report, so a staff member or someone could help you fix this.

Are you able to share that sound here on the forum or with help@inaturalist.org so we can test with it?

Sent one of the files to help@inaturalist.org. The error happens with all the sound files I try to upload so you can also pick up any I already uploaded to iNaturalist @sbasalaev (did that using the old upload form).

The sound you sent me imports fine at inaturalist.org/observations/upload in both Chrome and Firefox on my Mac. I even changed the file’s name to match the file from your screenshot here and it works. Have you tried turning off all extensions to see if that makes any difference?

Then this is a problem on my system. Tried different browsers and formats. In freshly installed Chrome everything works. In Firefox without extensions .mp3 and .m4a are accepted and only .wav is rejected. So only one browser/format combination is problematic.
