For those of you who are visual artists, do you like to draw/paint anything from nature?

I love the bubble eyed goldfish!

It’s fun to revisit this thread and see all the artwork that’s been added. Hopefully I can do that myself some time soon haha

I actually have something to share :wood:

it’s the bird icon! Carved out of Basswood (Tilia americana) :)

Some cards I’m making to help with tree identification. I only drew the flowers because I’m intending to use some of the techniques described in Lynne Kelly’s book about memorisation in order to add the information required for identification.

Hey headsoup! If I recall, you use some of the same digital art software packages as I do, but I wasn’t sure if that included Rebelle from Escape Motions.

But if not, the news is that they are about to release their latest Rebelle (version 7) and are now offering a deal through pre-ordering until Nov. 30.

$20 for the full update (the pro version is more though). This version introduces metallics, which might be very useful for insect studies.

The deal is open to everyone (new or old version users), and there’s no subscription fees, you get ver 7 for life. Rebelle’s natural colour blending is what really intrigue me, plus their dry media tools have come a long way.

I love to paint, with gouache mostly, and started painting some of the native flora and some of the bees in my garden but I’ve been so busy I haven’t had the time to keep it going.

just a random thought… i would love for someone to incorporate UV fluorescent paints / pigments into their works to reflect some some of the UV fluorescence that you can find in nature.

I did glow in the dark art on a t shirt

conceptually, i like where you’re going with this, but the science part of my brain asks so many questions:

  • do slugs actually fluoresce yellow? (do they fluoresce at all?)
  • i like that the red in the cap of the mushroom doesn’t fluoresce while the rest of it does, but that looks like an Amanita, and do Amanitas actually grow on logs (as opposed to in the dirt)? and do they fluoresce green?
  • if the little lines of green are supposed to be something like moss, shouldn’t that fluoresce bright red?
  • etc…

New Holland Honeyeater with human eyes from a fairy tale. Unique style, like it.

Ha  I totally get it. It wasn’t trying to be scientific whatsoever. We were making glow in the dark art for our tshirts for Halloween so I wanted everything to glow.

Maybe in a radioactive world they could all potentially glow

I did digital art since I couldn’t draw nice clean lines and thought I couldn’t really draw at all. Over the last few weeks I’ve been making myself do a pencil drawing a day to learn to draw. These are from the last couple days. The bumblebee’s species is bombus pensylvanicus, the other the desert stink beetle Eleodes goryi.

Well, landscapes for the background, but I’m not sure that counts. Primarily, I’m into oil painting. A skill I really want to learn is botanical/zoological drawing with water colour, though.

Wow! These are so beautiful!

Absolutely Gorgeous!!!
