Tribulus planospira - Eye of Judas. I guess the name refers to the black slash across the columella which resembles an eye reduced to just a slit.

Some odonates have rather dramatic-sounding names, like Stygian Shadowdragon, or Ebony Boghaunter, or Dragonhunter

Nameless pinion (Lithophane innominata) is a moth. ā€œInnominataā€ means ā€œnamelessā€.
Thereā€™s a small giant clam.

There is a species called Medium Egret, and its scientific name is Ardea intermedia, just because it is bigger than the Little Egret and smaller than the Great Egret.

In South Africa it is known as Intermediate Egret. I see that is listed as one of its other names.

Poor fella. Imagine being called a ā€˜mediumā€™ egret. I mean, at least the little egret has something special (it being ā€˜littleā€™). But whoever found this species just said 'Meh. Itā€™s prettyā€¦medium". The insult!

It used to known as ā€œIntermediate Egretā€ until it got split into several species a couple years ago.

Order Phallales, family Phallaceae, with one of the genera being Phallus. I am a mature adult, I swear!

Palabritas (wordlets): the clam Donax, not to be confused with the plant Donax. Ancient Greek Ī“ĻŒĪ½Ī±Ī¾ meant both a reed (Arundo donax, not the genus Donax) and some shellfish.
RatĆ³n meteoro (meteor mouse): a vole.
