I deleted a duplicated upload, and now have a question

I am going through some older photos, making slow but steady progress. I have a system to avoid uploading something twice but I just found an instance where I had uploaded a record of the same skipper butterfly on two separate days (2 days apart). Both were identified by different people.

So, I have deleted the second upload/record. Now I’m wondering if the person who identified this receives a notification? And if so, should I have sent an explanation?

I imagine “no” to both but I figured I would ask.

No, they won’t receive a notification. If they’re looking very closely they might notice their total # of identifications mysteriously decrease. The vast majority of duplicates are never addressed by the poster, so your doing so is much appreciated!

If you had a useful comment on the deleted duplicate - I would copypasta that across. If you use an @mention they will be notified. Or remove the @ to avoid an unnecessary notification.

Same species in the same place two days apart is not a duplicate so no one would have criticised you for keeping both. A 2-day gap is probably not significant in terms of phenology but it might have said something useful, such as the butterfly was staying in the habitat rather than just passing through.

I took the ‘two days apart’ as referring to the date of upload (so, uploading the same photo twice, two days apart), rather than the date of observation?

Oh right. If that is the case, yes, best to delete one.

You are correct. It was the uploading that was two days apart. The photos were the same two photos on both uploads. I did not have a comment included so nothing lost there.

Thanks for the input.
