is there a way to turn that off? no need to load a dozen thumbnails on hundreds of pages a day for a feature i’ll never look at.
I do use that for obs where the location seems off, where were their other obs on that day ? Also in the Middle of Africa, or at a high school in USA or Europe ? Or simply an honest mistake which needs correcting.
Would be good to have a lite iNat, with collapse and expand – for days when my internet is. Ag. On. Is. Ing. Ly. Slow !
It has been there for as long as I can remember. I can use in the same way (to check for other observations from the user that may shed light on the current one, especially if there are issues).
I don’t know of anyway that one can “turn it off” within iNat, but you can always use a browser extension like uBlock or similar to block that specific element if you wish.
For what it’s worth, I think most of the bottom section doesn’t load unless you scroll down? At least, if I scroll down to use the DQA, I often have to wait a second for it to load, even though the page had apparently finished loading.

I looked at the iNat code base and i think “More from” was added Feb 2017.
Is it possible that it’s just the large green bars on the sides of it that are new?

If I want to see more from a user I click on their profile and look at their observations from there.
Yes, it does seem redundant.
The only slightly useful thing there is the link to the observer’s calendar for that day, which would otherwise require several more clicks to access (or typing in a url).
The other links are directly available at the top of the page: i.e. clicking on the observations-number is the same as the all-link, and clicking on the observed-date is the same as the date-link. (The submitted-date works in a similar fashion as well). And of course you can just click on the observer’s user-name to access their profile (as well as their full calendar).
The two sections further down seem more interesting, but until now, I don’t think I’ve ever looked at them.
I’m interested in knowing why you have no interest in ever looking at that feature. When I see an observation, I often want to know more about the person who posted it. Don’t you think the “more from” feature is a good way to learn more about what the person has seen and photographed?
I use it all the time, especially in cases of predation or pollination. I can see if they’ve made observations for both organisms in the photo and, if they haven’t, let them know they can duplicate the observation.

That’s a great way to see what the person has been observing lately, but unless you spend a lot of time scrolling through dozens of pages of observations, you could fail to see what they primarily specialize in, or you could miss seeing observations that are similar to the one that you initially saw.
if they have a special interest, it’s usually mentioned in the profile. if i want to see similar observations, i’ll filter their observations to that taxon.
i’m not saying this feature doesn’t have its use cases for other people. it’s just not something i have a need for.
