A post was split to a new topic: “Service temporarily unavailable. Please try again in -417 seconds” message on Android during scheduled downtime

Hi Tony.
Was there a notice somewhere about the scheduled maintenance? If so, I missed it. Unfortunately I was live-streaming a talk about iNat to over 100 people and demonstrating features on the website last evening when my screen froze. I just want to know where to look for planned outages so next time I won’t be caught unaware. (I’m really not complaining, just trying to be prepared.)
Thanks.
Millie

I personally see the notification in the home screen near the top of the page at least a day in advance of the maintenance start.

It’s not the first time scheduled downtime has happened during someone’s event like that; I wonder if it would be possible to post the dates/times somewhere further in advance than a few days.

I’m so sorry, Millie! We put it up an announcement banner on the website at least 48 hours in advance, but I can see if it’s something we can give a longer advance warning about. I also should have posted on social media a few days before as well.

Thanks all for the answers. I must have been so focused on preparing for the talk that I just ignored the notice. I’ll pay more attention next time.

Did this update remove the forum links from the iNat home page? Or is that just me? I can’t find any links to the forum from the website at all now.

Same here. Curious. But came up in this closed thread https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/link-to-forum-is-gone-from-the-main-site/17926

Sounds like it is tempoary.

It is back today.

Is everything on the site back to normal?
I’ve been noticing that many of the taxon pages don’t have all (or any) observations. e.g https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?taxon_id=304994 shows 290 observations whereas
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/304994-Rhynchophorus-palmarum shows 0 observations

Welcome to the forum.

I get observations where you have 0. You don’t have your filter by place limited to a certain region do you? It trips people up.

Dammit, yes that was the issue. I was wondering why no one else was complaining about this.
