iNaturalist iPhone app always has the wrong time

Platform (Android, iOS, Website): iOS 18.4.1

App version number: iNat Next 1.0.2

Screenshots of what you are seeing: https://imgur.com/a/EGlgPV3

Description of problem: Every time I upload a photo through the iNat Next app the time is wrong by exactly 9.5 hours. For example, this observation was observed at 15:57 ACST 5 May 2025 but the app extracted this data as 6:28 ACST 5 May 2025.

I will note my phone is in 24 hour time.

It has to be a time zone issue somewhere. The SA timezone is UTC + 9:30, so something somewhere has the correct time but the wrong time zone. I don’t use the app so I don’t know if it has a time zone setting or where it would be. But I thought someone who did know would have answered you by now.

I have been having a similar issue with the new iNat app.

Time on observation uploaded thru app shows as 9:50 pm, photo EXIF data shows 2:50 pm (see photo 4).

This has been going on for the entire time I’ve used the new iNat app - I’ve been manually correcting each observation except this one.

Looks like a UTC issue as UTC is 7 hours ahead of PDT.

I think you’re right regarding UTC timezone conversion, because when daylight savings are active we use ACDT, and during this period the app was wrong by 9 hours instead of 9:30.

I updated the title to reflect the fact that no app is currently called “iNaturalist Next”.

@jraus it looks like you’re shooting in RAW format. See this bug report.

Yep, am shooting in raw. I’ve had a look at the other thread and it looks like that is indeed the cause of the issue.

OK, I’m going to close this topic to focus discussion on the existing bug report.
