iNaturalist Not Reading Geotag Data From Photos

Please fill out the following sections to the best of your ability, it will help us investigate bugs if we have this information at the outset. Screenshots are especially helpful, so please provide those if you can.

Platform (Android, iOS, Website): iOS

App version number, if a mobile app issue (shown under Settings or About): 3.2.9, Version 687 iOS 16.0

Browser, if a website issue (Firefox, Chrome, etc) :

URLs (aka web addresses) of any relevant observations or pages:

Screenshots of what you are seeing (instructions for taking a screenshot on computers and mobile devices: https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/):

Description of problem (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.): On my iPhone, my Google Photos have geotagged data but when I upload them to the app, the app is not reading. I have location services enabled.

Step 1: I take a photo with my iPhone and it saves automatically to Google Photos

Step 2: The photo in Google Photos has location info

Step 3: I create an observation in the iPhone app and upload the photo but it doesn’t have location info

iNaturalist doesn’t import photos from Google Photos, just your iPhone’s Photos app. If you go to the photo in your Photos app, does the photo have location data? Can you swipe up on it and send a screenshot of what you see?

It should look something like this:

If you had an Android, rebooting your phone could work.

Without further details it’s not really possible to investigate this further. I’ve set it to close in about two days. Please reply with more information before that.
