iNaturalist Updates for March 2021

Here’s a list of iNat updates that were released in March of 2021. Thank you, @forum_moderators, for keeping track of these!


  • Announced AWS Open Data Program - if you opt to license your photos with a Creative Commons license, your photos can be more easily used for research and other purposes as well as save iNaturalist money on image hosting
  • Launched iNaturalist Greece, supported by iSea, as part of the iNaturalist Network—localized websites supported by local institutions that promote local use and facilitate the use of data from iNaturalist to benefit local biodiversity (read blog post)
  • Removed other computer vision species suggestions when one of them is “human (Homo sapiens)”
  • Improved time zone handling
  • Testing v2 of the API - you can help
  • Many additional translations throughout the websites and apps - you can help

  • Added background uploader, which allows you to use Seek while uploading an observation to iNaturalist.

Well done, it’s good to see that iNat is so active.


But what’s about dozens of identical “City Nature Chall…” projects without any possibility to view whole title?


Can you please provide some examples and a screenshot? Specifics are really important.

Ah, do you mean this? The monthly update post only covers announcements, improvements, features, bug fixes, etc that have been implemented (or need public feedback) during the month in question. It doesn’t cover anything else.

What was the original sorting routine? Recently used would be the most convenient i think but you can change the title

A list with Control-F search capability is engough. but to be honest projects sometimes just do not show up (Hoogkerk Bangeweer Suikerunie) in the iphone app

Date created. You can answer to the topic about it with your idea and read other proposals there.
