Here’s a list of iNat updates that were released in March of 2021. Thank you, @forum_moderators, for keeping track of these!
General
- Announced AWS Open Data Program - if you opt to license your photos with a Creative Commons license, your photos can be more easily used for research and other purposes as well as save iNaturalist money on image hosting
- Launched iNaturalist Greece, supported by iSea, as part of the iNaturalist Network—localized websites supported by local institutions that promote local use and facilitate the use of data from iNaturalist to benefit local biodiversity (read blog post)
- Removed other computer vision species suggestions when one of them is “human (Homo sapiens)”
- Improved time zone handling
- Testing v2 of the API - you can help
- Many additional translations throughout the websites and apps - you can help
Website
- Like Android, now restricting computer vision suggestions to those “seen nearby” by default, with an sticky option to show suggestions not seen nearby too
- Improved Y axis number formatting for graphs of observations on taxon pages
- Translated country names are now searchable
- User profiles now show which network site a person is affiliated with (e.g. iNaturalist, iNaturalist NZ, ArgentiNat)
- Better ranking to popular projects in header search results
- Fixed a bug affecting sorting by number of faves
- Projects you admin (e.g. here) are now sorted alphabetically by title
- Added support for
without_taxon_id
parameter in exports - Compare tool now correctly displays obscured locations as circles
- Improvements to lazy-load on observation detail page
Android
- Follow/Unfollow an observation
- Swapped the order of some buttons on the add observation/add media panel
- View metadata for an observation, including observation ID, UIUD, and URL
- User’s own IDs are now properly displayed
Seek
- Released March Challenge, sponsored by National Geographic
- Added background uploader, which allows you to use Seek while uploading an observation to iNaturalist.
