Include Wikipedia Page Previews for links in the About section of a species

Platform(s), such as mobile, website, API, other:

URLs (aka web addresses) of any pages, if relevant:

Description of need:

I love the loading of the wikipedia entries into the descriptions on the web-based inaturalist.org site. I especially love wikipedia’s page preview feature and would like to request its functionality be included on the iNaturalist site when it draws on a Wikipedia page.

Feature request details:
It is in the css/javascript of the iNaturalist site.
It is open source: https://github.com/wikimedia/wikipedia-preview

I assume you mean that on the About page here, you’d want to see this:

instead of this?

You seem like someone who might enjoy the Chrome/Firefox/Opera browser extension Entity Explosion, that works from iNat even if there isn’t an English Wikipedia page, as long as the species ID is in Wikidata (which most are).

Here’s an example of the dropdown:

Yes! This is what I am talking about.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Definitely going to check this out. iNaturalist is definitely the site I rely on this sort of thing most.

Let me know what you think of it. This community is one of the ideal userbases for EE.

This would be cool (I voted for it!) but we decided to not move forward with the request. It’s main benefit is for using Wikipedia, and adding the code and adapting it to our taxon page is tricky enough that we don’t think the benefits to iNat outweigh the effort.
