Is it possible to search for certain types of places? Like ‘museum’ or ‘botanical garden’ or ‘national park’? Or a way to get that kind of metadata about a place?
although the old API (https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/api+reference#get-places) allows you to search by place type, those items that you listed are not among the place types defined in the system. so then the next best way to find such places, i think, is just to search by name. for example, https://www.inaturalist.org/search?q=botanical+garden&source[]=places or https://api.inaturalist.org/v1/places/autocomplete?q=botanical.
just curious: what are you trying to do?

Thanks that’s a great idea to use the autocomplete.
I’m interested in looking at whether some of the out of range plant observations occur at botanical gardens, but I also kind of want to look at what types of exotics are photographed at botanical gardens in the casual obs.
