Platform(s), such as mobile, website, API, other: iNat Next/ new iOS app
URLs (aka web addresses) of any pages, if relevant: NA
Description of need: Ability to mark observations as reviewed
Describe the iNaturalist community need that your requested feature addresses. Include screenshots, URLs, and other details to help us all understand the issue. It is possible to suggest IDs in iNat Next. However without the ability to mark observations as reviewed and exclude them from searches, the ability to add many IDs is limited because you can’t exclude an observation where you didn’t add an ID from future searches.
I realize that the app is primarily focused on observing and not identifying. Having the app be a more functional place for adding IDs will enable easier IDs on the fly when just killing time (as I currently am waiting for an appointment ). The website on a phone browser is an option, but the identify module is hard to use on a phone.
The explore filters have the ability to exclude reviewed observations. That makes it feel like there was a plan to make Explore in iNatNext available to support adding IDs.
This would not take the place of nor be better than the Identity module on the website for users on a desktop/laptop/tablet.
Feature request details:
In detail, describe the feature you are requesting. This includes its functionality, where the feature is implemented, and what it might look like. Screenshots or mock-ups are helpful. The idea is to have a concrete and actionable request which the community can discuss and vote on. It might change through discussion, but it’s much easier to iterate and talk about something specific.
An example of where a mark as reviewed option could be added:
Another option is something to click on the thumbnail. Though, I know some other feedback on the interface requested reduction of clutter obscuring the thumbnail.
