Merging new comments to closed threads

Is it really a good idea to merge new posts to existing and CLOSED threads? Basically, that is equivalent to saying, “SHUT UP!” since now there can be no reply. In my case, the new post was entitled Generic names with multiple instances which is not exactly the same as the thread it was merged into.

In general, I think it would be a good idea to maybe link the proposed thread to be merged and allow a bit of discussion first before doing the merge, unless you really want me to shut up, which is quite rude.

Hmmm. I opened this thread after I attempted to answer that one and got an error that it was closed, hence this thread. I’ll take another look when I get some time. Thanks.

Edit: Still not available. “An error occurred: Something has gone wrong. Perhaps this topic was closed or deleted while you were looking at it?”
