Notifications of observation fields by muted users due to incorrect attribution?

This is on desktop w/ Chrome. Example observation corresponding to screenshots: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/169992791

I have muted a couple users to prevent notifications being generated when they add observation fields to observations I’ve previously added IDs to. Since I identify and they add observations fields both on a pretty large scale, my notifications can get quite overwhelmed.

However, I’m still being notified despite muting them. I’ve noticed that on the dashboard and in the notification dropdown, the fields are attributed to the muted users (screenshots 1 and 2), but on the actual observation page, the fields are attributed to the observer (screenshot 3). Perhaps the incorrect attribution has something to do with why the notification is still coming through?

Seems like this bug is still around, then? At least partially?

Potentially. @xianzx are you able to send un-redacted screenshots to help@inaturalist.org the next time this happens?

Sent! Thanks for looking into this.

Well I just

  1. muted my test account (inatstafftestaccount)
  2. Added an obs field and value to one of my observations
  3. logged in as inatstafftestaccount and edited that obs field

I then received a notification of that observation field being edited by the user I muted, so I think there’s a bug there. I made a github issue: https://github.com/inaturalist/inaturalist/issues/4261

I just experienced this as well; I didn’t make this change and it shows that I did it in the notification as well as when I click on the observation field.

But I have no memory of ever blocking or muting anyone else?

Edit: Additional screenshot from today of the dashboard notification showing the date I originally added the annotation.
