According to my observations page, I have observed 1,001 species. I wanted to break these numbers down a bit out of curiosity and began filtering by category (birds/mammals/plants/etc) and got the following results:
Assuming I did my math correctly, this adds up to… 984? 17 species are missing. I haven’t filtered out needs-ID or casual observations either. Where did they go? I’m asking here first in case this is a miscalculation on my part or a result of some feature I don’t fully understand, but do I make a bug report?
Oh, thank you! How did you even filter for those? I feel like they should really have a little category of their own if they’re not in any of the others, “Myriapods” perhaps…
it’s more than myriapods. your “other animals” also includes crustacea, springtails, worms, and byrozoans. mine also has cnidarians, hydrozoans, and sharks / rays.
unfortunately, you just have to know that “other animals” exists, and you can only get them through URL manipulation on the web Explore and Identify screens. this is also true for chromista. i don’t know why there are only 12 “iconic taxa” displayed on the filter interface for these screens. all 14 are shown if you go to the search interface in your Observation Edit screen, and there are also 14 on the Android app Explore screen. maybe you can make a feature request to also show all 14 iconic taxa on the web Explore and Identify screens.
