I’ve added the observation field to several observations. Is there anything else I have to do to get them added to the project? I clicked on “add observations” on the project page, but I got the (old) form for adding (or editing) a new observation.
The “Never Home Alone” project?
This project has a mandatory observation field – any observations without the field filled out will be rejected. So you have completed the first step. However, they won’t be automatically added to the project for this type of project (“traditional project”).
I find the easiest way to add observations is to select it from the observation page. (If you haven’t joined the project, you will need to do so or it won’t appear on the list of projects you can select from.) If you have multiple observations you want to add, you should be able to do this using the batch edit function.
Filled out with what?
See here: https://www.inaturalist.org/project/never-home-alone-the-wild-life-of-homes/terms
Or it will ask you to select a value for the field when you try to add an observation to the project.
“we created an observation field that requires observers to “agree” that their observation was found indoors before submitting it to the project”
Huh?
Here’s an example:
I just uploaded an observation and tried to add it to the project, which I had already joined, so it shows on the list of my projects (circled in red)
Since I hadn’t filled out the correct observation field (because I can never remember which field it is) I got this prompt:
So I just clicked on the Add button for “this organism was found inside, right?”
and then clicked on the “Add to project” button.
So, in short, you have to be a “member” of the project. If you aren’t a member, you won’t see the message.
Yes, with Traditional Projects you have to join. And upload manually.
Per iNaturalist help pages:
“A user must also join a Traditional project in order to add their observations to it.”
Actually, a user must join a Traditional project in order to add observations to it, but once a member one can also add observations by other observers to it. (I do that a lot.)
I can’t see any reason to become a member just to add one observation. If they want my scorpion, they know where it is, I’ve provided a link.
Thanks! I didn’t know that, but I should have realized it, because people have sometimes added my observations to projects. That’s generally how I learn about fun projects!
