Description of problem:

Hi all, just having a bit of a problem working out why my friend isn’t showing up on the observer list here. So as you can probably guess from her username below, my friend likes seagrass. So after a bit of research I had a play around with the taxon exclusion filters to just limit the explore page to seagrasses, showing that she has 16 observations of 15 species of seagrass:

However, when I do the same search for all observers and order it by number of species seen, she doesn’t come up at all despite the fact that she should be right near the top of the leaderboard:

I’m used to this happening when a user doesn’t have many observations despite having a high number of species (so they get ‘cut off’ because they’re not in the top 500 by number of observations), but this clearly isn’t the case here because she already has more observations than the user in second place, and if I scroll all the way to the bottom it gets down to users with only 9 observations. So I really can’t work out what’s going wrong here. Am I just missing something obvious??

i didn’t actually look at this besides what you wrote in your post, and i don’t have any answers, but it should be impossible for that second user to have more species than observations.

I didn’t notice that! But yes that also is very odd there. And now I’m even more confused, because when I restrict it to just that user it says they have 18 observations! Very strange.

Excluding 22 Taxa.

Never seen that before. You have your filters set to
Genus and Low

Is that still what you intend ?

here was a similar issue from back in the day: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/corrupt-indexing-of-observer-statistics-at-southern-africa-scale/75523/4

Thanks both, very odd. Maybe it is a result of the estimation as well? Although that wouldn’t account for why the other user has more species than observations. And yes @DianaStuder the Genus and Low filters were intended too :)

Did a little checking and did find something similar.
