Photos incorrectly identified used as examples of larvae

I have come across this problem several times. The latest is for Dotted Gray - Glena cribrataria.

Both photos which show up as feature photos of the larvae for Glena cribrataria are not Glena cribrataria.

https://www.inaturalist.org/photos/228055915 is a photo of Ectropis crepuscularia

The second photo
https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/220395-Glena-cribrataria
is Eutrapela clemataria

I know that incorrectly identified photos show up as examples but what makes these two a problem is that they are prominently displayed.

This topic of incorrectly identified feature photos has been addressed previously.

If I am able to contact the photographer to correct the identification, eventually the photo is removed as a feature photo. But it the mis-identified photo still shows up when using “Compare”. Just checked on one that I noticed a few weeks ago.

It’s great that you’re noticing these errors. You don’t need any special privileges to edit taxon photos, so the best way to get this fixed is to do it yourself (providing you have good knowledge of a particular taxon). Here’s how: https://help.inaturalist.org/en/support/solutions/articles/151000170377-the-taxon-photo-is-wrong-how-does-this-get-fixed-

There are also many posts on the forum with guidance for how to choose and prioritize taxon photos for particular types of organisms. Definitely good advice in those threads.
