Project Species: Total Not Equal to All Categories

I was wondering why this happens. When I click on the project for ‘Governors Island Wildlife’ I get 600 species. When I count the # of species by category (Aves, Amphibia, Reptilia, Mammalia, Actinopterygii, Mollusca, Arachnida, Insecta, Plantae, Fungi, Protozoa & unknown) I get 591 species. Nine short of the total for the project.

There are two more iconic taxa that don’t have icons in Explore: Animalia (“other animals”) and Chromista (“kelp, diatoms, and allies”). You can see the icons for these on the observation batch edit page.

Adding those two will give you the full 600 because there are 9 species in those iconic taxa.
