Puzzle of Observation Missing from Maps

I run a project for members of my local Field Naturalists club, which collects observations made while they are travelling. This is the project:

One of our members uploaded yesterday an observation of a spider in Malaysia. The location is not obscured. The observation is in the project, but it doesn’t show on the map. It also doesn’t appear when I look at all that member’s observations in the map view.

I thought maybe it was a matter of time, but it is now more than 24 hours since the observation was added to the project, and it still is not appearing on the map.

Can anyone suggest a reason why this might occur?

it’s not mappable. the accuracy value is greater than the diagonal of 0.2 deg lat x 0.2 deg long.

Aha! Thank you. I will ask them to reduce the size of that circle.

They should only do this

if the original accuracy value was in error. If they truly are not more sure of where the observation was made, they shouldn’t reduce the size of the circle just so it can be entered into the project.

See this help page: https://help.inaturalist.org/en/support/solutions/articles/151000226294

Fair enough. If they can’t be more accurate, they will have to live with the observation not appearing on the map.
