When a user is blocked on the iNaturalist site, does it send any notice to the user that has been blocked? Additionally, is there any way to set it so that my observations can only be viewed if someone is logged in - allowing some measure of control over who sees it, and also making sure that blocked users can’t simply log out and see my stuff
People are not notified when someone blocks them. iNaturalist observations cannot be hidden from view, either from the blocked person or the general public/people not logged in. Your observations won’t show up when someone you blocked does general searches throughout the site. But they can still view a direct link to your observations. They just can’t add IDs, comments, send messages, or otherwise interact with your personal content. iNaturalist is a place to share information publicly, so isn’t a great place to post if you are concerned about someone else seeing your content. see https://help.inaturalist.org/en/support/solutions/articles/151000173516-what-are-muting-and-blocking-how-do-i-block-or-mute-another-account-#Blocking and https://help.inaturalist.org/en/support/solutions/articles/151000171273-can-i-make-private-observations-that-aren-t-shared-publicly-
Alright, thank you. I’m a tad bit disappointed about the obs part, but I guess I’m not surprised observations can’t be hidden.
Well, the point of blocking is to prevent them interacting with you or your observations. But I can see a use case for what you are asking: if you don’t want them to be able to deduce where you were by looking at the locations of your observations. It does seem unfair for someone to have to obscure every location when they are the victim.
