Full blocking of other accounts

Hello all,
I am wondering if there is any way to completely block another iNaturalist user, to the extent of them not being able to see my observations, IDs, everything. Looking into this for future legal reasons and my own safety.
Cheers, and many thanks in advance.

Connor

Someone blocked that way would still be able to see your public activity by logging out though, so it seems like it would only be effective until they realized you’d blocked them.

Firstly - if somebody on iNat is behaving in a way that makes you feel unsafe, you should definitely bring that to the attention of staff immediately if you have not yet already.

I believe blocking can prevent another person from interacting with your observations, and keeps them from showing in searches, but there’s no way to prevent someone from seeing your stuff if they go directly to your pages.

Unfortunately there’s not much you can do, since even if there was a way to fully block an account, all that person would have to do to get around it is make a new account, or view the site while logged out.

Upload your obs later. I would not say - I am here, now - on iNat - and I don’t have ‘issues’.
But. Later that would still be visible.
Obscure location, but let project admins see ‘where’.

Do flag up bad behaviour.

Saludos.

This, this, 1000 times this, but also even if nothing has happened on iNat, if there is a fragile situation developing off-site that could spill over onto the shared space of iNat, I would recommend communicating with Staff.

You did not ask about the forum, but as your situation sounds quite serious, here might bear consideration as well.

Unfortunately, I do not think there is a mechanism to block a user in the forum so that they do not see your activity, only mute them, but I am hopeful if I am mistaken (happens frequently) someone will correct me.

Be well, be safe.

And in that context - important to remember that these Forum posts are public and come up on Google Search. (Which weirds me out a bit - it feels like ‘here you are among friends’ but is NOT so)

It seems pretty clear from the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy that we all agree to, that such targeted blocking (even if it were possible) would be somewhat pointless, due to all the data sharing with various named and unnamed partners.

Is your question meant to be hypothetical? (If it’s not, a public forum is surely an inappropriate place to discuss such matters).

Not hypothetical, trying to get out of a bad home situation, without being followed, and the primary individual involved is on iNat as well. I don’t have the ability to take any legal action, can’t afford any.
If this post was an inappropriate place to do so, I can attempt to remove it, if I cannot, many apologies.

Not about inappropriate.
It is to protect you.

I remember a blogger. 2 siblings. Evacuating horses, dogs, treasured plants - discreetly - without making it obvious - we - are - leaving. They did get to make a new life in safety.

I would reach out to help at iNat.

I think you should message the staff/curators for help with this (in Inat).

@person in this particular case, the best thing for you to do would be to email help@inaturalist.org, explaining your situation, as suggested by other users; staff will be able to give you the best advice going forward and will be best-placed to help you out. Please stay safe.

I will close this thread now. Feel free to also send a DM to @forum_moderators here on the forum if you need more advice
