Description of problem:

Step 1: Tried to add ID to this observation and got this error.

Step 2: Maybe this was a temporary thing as I just tried again and it worked. (Wasn’t temporary, see below. What was different was that it worked when I didn’t copy in the placeholder text.)

Step 3:

Just tried to add an ID to another of this person’s observations and got the same error:

https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/340118780

This is the error I get from the Identify page. If I try adding an ID by opening the observation and adding an ID, it appears to add then the ID disappears and an error “Failed to save” or something appears.

However, I just tried again and it worked. What was different each time it worked was that I didn’t not copy in the placeholder - I just added the ID. When I copied in the placeholder text, the errors appeared.

100% Homo but only 17% sapiens for the hat tree - says the Enhancement Suite ;~)
Koala gets 29% - go figure.

The CV wanted to tell me the “hat tree” was a snake. Bizarre.

I got this same error popup the other day but I can’t actually remember what caused it and it only happened once. For those struggling to interpret the message, it says “Internal Server Error” once you remove all the "error: " copies :joy:

ID AND comment = failed to save. Opened in a new tab, same difference. Add the ID. Then the comment in a separate step, and it sticks.

Same problem today.
Website. Chrome.

I’m not seeing this error when adding any IDs, or IDs with remarks.

Any observation? If not, which specific observation?

Thanks for this bug report. On Tuesday we deployed some changes that were likely responsible for this. I saw an error effecting Identifications on observations that had no ID, where the ID was of a species, and where the ID contained some remark text. We just recently released a fix so those types of IDs should no longer generate errors. If folks could try again and report any other problems adding IDs, that would be appreciated. Apologies for the problem, and thanks again for bringing it to our attention
