Sound clips on observation not decoding in firefox

Please fill out the following sections to the best of your ability, it will help us investigate bugs if we have this information at the outset. Screenshots are especially helpful, so please provide those if you can.

Platform (Android, iOS, Website): Website

App version number, if a mobile app issue (shown under Settings or About):

Browser, if a website issue (Firefox, Chrome, etc) : Firefox 71.0 (64-bit) - Mac - BigSur

URLs (aka web addresses) of any relevant observations or pages: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/80714606
Although I get this error on all sound observations.

Screenshots of what you are seeing (instructions for taking a screenshot on computers and mobile devices: https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/):

Description of problem (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.):

Step 1:
Visit observation

Step 2:
Open developer tools

Step 3:
Click play button, duration will still show as “0:00”

Error shown in developer tools console:
Media resource https://static.inaturalist.org/sounds/244577.wav?1622833930 could not be decoded, error: Error Code: NS_ERROR_DOM_MEDIA_MEDIASINK_ERR (0x806e000b)
Details: OnMediaSinkAudioError

71.0 doesn’t look like the latest version of the browser. I’d try updating it first.

I could play the audio (diff versions). That obs contains a wav file - perhaps your system doesn’t like wavs?

The following obs has an mp3:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/41158821

The following has m4a:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/69944190

If you can’t play these in your browser then you can’t play these formats on any web site in your browser.

Sorry, was an issue with that version of firefox. Updating to 89.0 resolved the issue.
