Spurious dropdown menu appears in identify mode

Browser: bug exists on a mac running latest FireFox (72.0.2) and Chrome (79.0.3945)

Description of problem:

Step 1: Go to https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/identify

Step 2: Click on an observation, click “Add ID”, start typing any species name so that the drop-down menu appears, and click on any species in that list

Step 3: click on any non-active part of the browser window to deselect the species input (or type a couple of TABs if you’re like me and touch type well, but don’t like using the mouse), but DO NOT save the identification. Maybe you just looked that species up in a field guide and decided not to make this identification.

Step 4: Press right-arrow to go on to the next observation. The previously-shown dropdown menu will reappear in the upper-left corner of the browser window. It won’t disappear until you click on any species in it.

This one gets me with some regularity, and has existed for a long long time. I make an ID off the top of my head, doubt myself and look it up, and then decide I’m not sure and don’t save it.

I’ve seen this one a bunch – not sure why it hasn’t occurred to me to report it!

I’ve seen it too and we did a little digging but it’s tough to pin down.

not sure if it helps to pin down the bug, but I use the “AddID” button just as described also quite often with FireFox (72.0.2) and Windows, and it never happened.
