I would like to start a new project but only have invited trained citizen scientists join and contribute. Is this possible.

What counts as training?
Somewhat like a bioblitz. A 1-2 day course etc. They will be collecting road-kill data as part of a special assessment for a government grant.
Volunteeers with a paid project co-ordinator. Very localized study scope. Only turtles on 1 km of road.
Yes, you can set up a traditional project (not a new style collection project) and limit it to participants that you invite.
I just checked, and the link to make traditional projects seems to be a bit hidden these days. Here it is: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/new_traditional, make sure to check “invite only” under preferred membership model.
