Suggestion: Add a button linking an Observation’s map to the Explore map

I often use the map found in a specific observation, so that I can see it in relation to the location of other observations. However, if I want to actually see the photos and details of other observations, I have to exit, go to Explore, remember how to spell the taxon, type it in, remember where exactly my observation was, and zoom in.

My suggestion is to add a button on an observation’s map (below), that would bring you to the Explore page, and show you the observations for the taxon you are currently viewing, at the map location you are currently zoomed to.

Thanks for considering! And for all the hard work on the new app!

I think this is a superb idea. I suggest placing this in the Feature Request category. I’d vote for it!

Thanks! Ah ok, I thought all feature requests for the app were supposed to go here.

I wouldn’t be against this but currently it’s fairly easy to get to a taxon’s observations in Explore from an observaiton page:

  1. Tap on the ID of the taxon you’re interested in, which will take you to the taxon’s page
  2. Tap on the compass icon on the taxon page (right-hand side)
  3. You’ll now be in Explore, filtered to show observations of that taxon.

You’ll still have to zoom into the area where the observation in question was made, but it’s a bit shorter than your current workflow.

Interesting! I don’t know if I ever would have noticed that icon (or known that it was a compass). Good to know I don’t have to type in the taxon at least.

Yeah, it can definitely be improved. Until recently it was the icon for the Explore page, which we’ve now changed to a magnifying glass but people found it confusing. This is sort of a vestige of that.
