Summer continental mycoblitz 2023

I haven’t noticed anyone make a topic on this, so I figured I’d spread the word.

There is currently a mycoblitz going on for North America, from Aug 11 to Aug 20th - the website for the project with more information is here https://mycota.com/2023-continental-mycoblitz/ and the iNat project is here https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/summer-continental-mycoblitz-2023

There is an opportunity here to get finds sequenced - they’ll sequence 10 specimans for free (instructions are on the site,) and if you’d like more than that there is a small charge. But this is a great project, fungi are understudied and ephemeral, and this is a great opportunity to help increase understanding of our North American fungi

(you don’t need to collect specimens either, you can totally participate with just pictures if you’d like.)

If you have any fungi interest, this is a great little blitz to get involved in! (and there will be another one in the fall)

Thanks for sharing! Curious why this isn’t a collection project?

Not fully sure, I didn’t set up this project, I’m just a participant.

If I were to put money on it, I’d say they’re trying to make sure they’re getting high quality observations, plus the required fields are related to whether or not a specimen was collected

Yes, looking closer I think they don’t just want the observations automatically added. They want the specific data associated with the specimens to be entered for all vouchered specimens.

Hi, sorry, but one of our guidelines here is that the forum isn’t for promoting projects, so I’m going to unlist this topic.

Ah shoot, apologies
