Description of problem:

Step 1: Go to taxon page of species that has no corresponding entry in the GBIF Backbone Taxonomy (such as the ant Camponotus atricolor (Nylander, 1849) or the hoverfly Allobaccha nubilipennis (Austen, 1893)) and go to the “About” tab.

Step 2: Click on the “Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF)” link in the “More Info” section.

Step 3: Get directed to the GBIF page for bird species Galerida theklae A.E.Brehm, 1857 (https://www.gbif.org/species/9330514).

I thought this was a data issue at first and raised a flag on C. atricolor but if it also happens for the hoverfly it might be a systematic issue?

Thanks – I fixed it. The issue is that those links are often formatted in such a way to apply to a large number of taxa, but sometimes curators accidentally change them to apply to a specific species.

In this case the link is supposed to be https://www.gbif.org/search?q=[NAME] and “NAME” automatically adjusts for each species.
