I’ve been trying to photograph aquatic animals close to the surface of the sea for quite some time. Sometimes I get good results but I also, quite often, get blurry results.
Do you have any tips for maximizing the chances of having a clear photo, with the Lumix G90, in these conditions, without having to immerse it (we know that sea water is frankly not recommended for electric devices? ) ?
I am not sure of the rules/regulations for the areas that you visit. But, if you are permitted to temporarily capture something or go with someone who was able to capture things, these options might work.
The first is a glass petri dish. Plastic would scratch. This would be an option if you needed to enclose a subject and view if from above. You could take photos through the glass top. The small container would also keep a subject relatively still.
The second idea is just a large clean plastic container that you could use to hold a subject while taking photos. I used that during an event at a local park where naturalists were capturing pond life and putting in big plastic tubs. I was able to use my close-up filter with this to get this photo:
The third idea is this little vertical tank. Maybe you could find one at a different website. I saw it listed on a few aquarium websites. People apparently like view their fish at home.
You’re probably going to want to eventually invest in a case of some sort for underwater photography, but you should be able to find lens filters to cut down on glare and scatter. Start by looking for polarized or UV filters.
