To whom it may concern: quick list of errors/inconsistencies in API dataset

for the standard api: https://api.inaturalist.org/v1/taxa?q=searchTerm

1 For the following search terms, the .iconic_taxon_name is “Animalia” rather than “Actinopterygii”

fluvitrygon oxyrhynchus
lepidosiren paradoxa
neoceratodus forsteri|
potamotrygon leopoldi
potamotrygon motoro
protopterus annectens
protopterus dolloi

2 .matched_term for ‘Chaca chaca’ is ‘frogmouth catfish’

These are not complaints - I can easily work around these.
These are FYIs for whoever maintains the dataset.

i don’t see any bugs here.

Actinopterygii are Ray-finned Fishes. Rays and Lungfishes are not Actinopterygii. instead, iNaturalist classifies them in the “Other Animals” iconic taxon (Animalia). if you want to look specifically for Rays, you can look for taxon_id = 448201 (Infraclass Batoidea) or one of its ancestor taxa, if you want to find Lungfishes, you can look for taxon_id = 85509 (Order Ceratodontiformes) or one of its ancestor taxa.

frogmouth catfish is one of the common names defined for Chaca chaca. do you have a better common name for it? if so, you can add or request for a curator to add an appropriate common name.
