I often record bird song through the “Merlin” app and was once able to use the audio file from that app and upload it onto the inaturalist app. Since the app has changed on my new phone (I have an iPhone now) I’m not sure if I can still upload audio files into inat? From what I can tell it looks like audio observations can only be done directly through the inat app? Not very tech savvy - thank you!
I’ve shared recordings to Google Drive, downloaded them to my computer, and then uploaded them to the website. I’ve also done it where it sends from Merlin to the iNat app (Android). You can also record straight in the app.
Yes, it sounds like you can’t import sounds into the iPhone app at this point. You need an Android or desktop to do that.

On android, I have a share to iNat option. I don’t use it, though.
I also upload it to my PC, because I can’t do all necessary edits inside Merlin.
Just like suggested before. I upload them all into my drive, download them to PC, analyze, cut and edit them and use the browser to upload them. (I hate adding locations to observations on mobile)
I have a little more complex setup than most but I also just copy the .wav files to my desktop first, then clean them up in Audition before I upload them in the browser.
