I’ve been Googling and looking but can’t find out how to post “sound” observations on iNaturalist using an iPhone. I have a tape recorder app, which turns out mp3 files. Help?
You can’t currently upload sounds through either the iNat iPhone or Android app. You need to use the web app where you can drag them into the uploader using your browser https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/upload
Here’s a tutorial video for iNat’s web uploader: https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/video+tutorials#add_web
I would love to see a feature where you can upload a video, and the video portion is scrubbed ,leaving just the audio
I just googled this. If you have Windows 10, you can extract audio from video using Audacity. I’m going to try it. I have great song clip of Song Sparrow - I already posted stills from my video. Now I’ll see if I can add the song.
A recent update of iNat’s iOS app allows one to record a sound file within the app. Still, you cannot upload a file recorded outside the iOS app. Baby steps…
I’m not crazy about the app. I’d rather use the browser on my iPad.
I agree. But staff here have suggested using a mobile iOS device is tough, as the website is not designed for that. Still, I will use my mobile devices for the foreseeable future, as my old computer has even more problems with the website.
